This center was established in 1990, in cooperation with University of Oslo ,
and was sponsored by NORAD, the Norwegians Housewives and Teachers
Associations, Sheikha Fatma spouse of late Sheikh Zayed and the Gulf Fund. At
that time, there were no specific training programs and courses in Egypt
dealing with intellectually disabled and hence. very few qualified
personnel.
A one year diploma program was set up, which included both a theoretical as
well as a practical content. Since its start in 1990, 15 classes have graduated
and have received diplomas in the field of special needs education.
In addition to the diploma program, the training center sets tailored programs
for other associations and centers. It also provides various short courses and
workshops on various topics dealing with intellectual disability to personnel
working in the field, parents and professionals.
